A Celebration of the Rich Diversity of Life on Our Planet.
Created by the Community for the Community.
The Procession of the Species is an artistic and joyous parade where community members celebrate their relationship with each other and the natural world.
- Created by the community for the community, the process program offers facilitated Art Workshops and Music Workshops in preparation for participation in the parade.
- These workshops are to encourage the notion that "anyone can be an artist" and to deepen the understanding of the other creatures that inhabit our world.
- On the Procession day, the community members don their creations and assemble according to their plant or animal into one of four categories: Land, Sky, Sea or Endangered Species. Then the group will proceed along the parade route in masks and costumes, carrying banners, windsocks and giant puppets, making music and merriment.

The Procession will be held on May 3rd, 2008 in downtown Oakland, Maryland. The Parade will stage at the Community Action parking lot located at 104 E Center Street, Oakland, Maryland behind the Ruth Enlow Library. From there the parade will make its way down second street and end at the Mountain Fresh Farmers Market Pavillian.
